Domino - JE Meakin

Last week after bidding and missing out on 4 lots at the auctions, I finally managed to win one,  and came away with a huge lot of plates including 18 fabulous J&E Meakin Domino plates from the 50's... They are pretty cute and I love the horizon shape....

I got them for a great price,  and it felt wonderful being the winning bidder and coming in under budget!!!

I'm off to my first auction (well 2nd actually) but this time its serious: ha ha!!!

  • Decided what I'm going to bid on
  • Registered and have a bidding number
Now I just have to bid and not go crazy - I've studied a few Bargain Hunt episodes and am pretty confident all will go well.... stay tuned for photo's!!!!

First Etsy Purchase

I just made my first etsy purchase and am beside myself with excitement - my items have been shipped and don't quite know how I'm going to avoid racing down to Post Office every 5 minutes to check my PO box- they are coming from a shop called Pink Grape Fruit Style in US so might give it a week or so before getting too excited..... This tape measure and all the wooden cotton spools are going to become Ten Green Balloon props (TGB Props) and are going to be a great addition.....

How and Why 5057 - The Polar Regions

I especially like this How & Why Wonder Book which is filled with useful information (and great pictures) about the North and South poles. I've added this one to the increasing collection  - which are now sitting together on the bookshelf rather than scattered about the room in different piles.

Spring Blossoms

Nothing marks the beginning of spring better than seeing beautiful blossoms starting to appear everywhere, and to mark the beginning of a new season I'm trying to do the spring clean thing...

I seem to have more clutter than normal this year.........and its proving to be quite difficult!!

Huddington Court - Meakin Plate

This old battered plate is pretty amazing...As well as the detail on the front I particularly like the Makers Mark showing it was made by J&G Meakin and is of Huddington Court.........

Huddington Court was used to plan the 1605 Gun Powder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament and was also used - once Guy Fawkes was arrested - by some of his conspirators to hide in a secret room within the walls...

Brocante = Flea Market

Today I came across a wonderfully inspiring blog called Home Shabby Home and learned a new word Brocante which is going to be quite useful if I ever find myself shopping in France....
Brocante = flea market or second hand shop

These images came from Home Shabby Home and although a little busier than I was planning for my home office the images have given me plenty of ideas to make my desk look organised rather than cluttered - I found an old industrial chest of draws recently and think I might have to bring them back home from the Waverley Bazaar unless someone has had the same idea and bought them....

How & Why Wonder Book - 5011 Beginning Science

Beginning Science is all about basic ideas in science and as the introduction states:

"Youngsters who are eager to learn will find this book of great help in exploring and understanding their environment, and they will want to add it to their shelf of How and Why Wonder Books".

I'm starting to build up a collection of How and Why Wonder Books and think they are fantastic - I particularly like the illustrations and don't think I can part with them. Produced in 1960 there were 61 books in the series  - they are numbered 5001 - 5061 so this could actually be the 5th series..

First X Stitch

This counted x-stitch skier would have to be one of my first creative achievements - I made it in 1981 and remember going through a x-stitch catalogue with my Mum, choosing and ordering the pattern (which came with all the materials) and then waiting for it to be delivered from somewhere like Austria or Switzerland... I also remember being terribly excited the day we picked it up from the framers and I've recently hung it back on the wall....
