Looking for a Project?

You could always grab an old pattern from an Op Shop, Flea Market or Vintage Bazaar - get some wool and knitting needles (either new or 2nd hand) and start creating!!!!

I have so much fabric and wool around my apartment in various boxes and cupboards, so as well as creating something vintage looking it could also have a de cluttering effect....

This Patons Craft Book is currently at the Waverly Antiques and Collectables Bazaar - check out the TV on the cover circa 1956 showing how modern this pattern was when it came out.... a new life style - look you can multi task and sit in front of the TV while crocheting a blanket......

Art or Graffiti

Photo by Jenny Papas - Artist Unknown
Whether you call this art or graffiti its a pretty sensational piece of work and was expertly spotted and snapped by Jenny Papas. Jenny loves photographing graffiti around Melbourne and turns her photo's into cards and canvas prints.... graffiti regularly gets painted over (as it often should be), or the building is demolished so its nice to see great stuff recorded and preserved....

According to the Oxford Dictionary Graffiti is:
Writing or drawings scribbled, scratched or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place....

Christmas Baking - Chocolate Brownie

KH Photography

Every Christmas friends of mine travel interstate so at our annual Christmas catchup, a few days before they leave, we have a few drinks, laugh a lot, exchange gifts & head out for a meal....

Its a wonderful tradition made more special by the fact our gifts include Christmas Baking...This year there were two delicious home baked treats to choose from and it was hard to pass up this tried and tested chocolate brownie - whats a girl to do... the other option was Anzac slice so packed into my container (which is part of the gift) I went home with half a chocolate brownie and half an Anzac slice -
soooooo spoilt.......

Stay tuned:  recipe and Anzac slice photo to follow

Ten Green Balloons - Started with a Thermos

Earlier in the year my Neice asked how I started Ten Green Balloons...
and the answer was easy - It started with a Thermos!!!!

While Op Shopping in NZ - with my Neice in tow - I bought an old thermos for $1 because the pattern was fantastic and I thought it would make a great prop.....however rather than packing it, the thermos went into my sister's garage sale which my neice was quite dubious about - exclaiming"you won't sell that it doesn't even have a lid" and sure it was missing the cup but had the vital part of any good working thermos - its stopper - !!!

Initially my neice was right it didn't sell in the Garage Sale and looked destined to become a prop until later that day a lady knocked on the door wanting to buy a thermos.... "I'm driving down South tomorrow and can't afford to buy coffee - my friend mentioned you might have a thermos for sale" Well when I sold it for $3 (cheaper than a takeaway coffee or 4) the expression on my Niece's face was priceless....

and Ten Green Balloons came to be......
and I still smile whenever I see a great old thermos for sale in an Op Shop....

Write More

I've had a hectic couple of weeks and neglected Ten Green Balloons a little so action needs to be taken!!! I'm going to make a few new years resolutions one of which will be to set aside time to write - whether it be lists, blog posts, letters or a book it doesn't matter, what matters is that time is set aside and I write...

Actually why wait until the New Year when there is no time like the present -  it even looks quite relaxing!!

Flowers - Poppie

Copyright Karen Hinde Photography
I love poppies and quite like this photo I took while house sitting for a friend a few years ago! - don't really know why I particularly like this image but there is just something about it.........I was inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe's flower images...
